Classroom extensions and refurbishment at
three schools in the Winsford and Rural district
as part of the council’s Basic Needs Programme
• Works were undertaken at Aston by Sutton Primary
School, Byley Primary School and Winsford High Street
Community Primary School
• All three sites took part in the Considerate Constructors
Scheme, achieving an average score of 36 out of 40
• The contractor value engineered initial design proposals
to reduce costs and time to meet the client’s budgetary
requirements. This totalled £230k across the three sites
• 116 tonnes of site waste was diverted from landfill with
materials reused creatively on site where possible
• The contractor held a ‘Bird House Day’ for pupils to
interact with wildlife. The pupils named 12 bird boxes
which were fitted to the trees, attracting nesting robins
• Based on project success at Winsford the contractor
was awarded extra works to create two new Multi-Use
Games Area pitches and relocate mobile classrooms

“The best thing about ISG has been the community spirit
and communication, which is allied with the fact that the
children are friendly and really want to be involved. The
workforce has also been excellent on site. It’s a beautiful
building with so much light and space.”

Chris Abbott, Head Teacher, Aston by Sutton Primary
