Crewe Lifestyle Centre
Crewe
The multi-award winning Crewe Lifestyle Centre enables efficient delivery of leisure and community services, whilst also facilitating regeneration and enhancing the health and well-being of local people. It is a place to read and learn, exercise, participate in community events and to receive social services on offer by the Council.
The scheme involved a large and diverse number of stakeholders; collaborative team working, clear communication and continual liaison was key to successfully managing stakeholder aspirations, and achieving a design which delivers the requirements for the users within the client’s budget.
Local Employment and Community Engagement
• Collaborative working ensured that Crewe Lifestyle Centre delivered the aims of Cheshire East Council’s ‘Sustainable Community Strategy’
• A total of 8 new and sustained apprentices worked on the site
• Two ‘Meet the Buyer’ events were held to help local sub-contractors become involved with the project
• 84.3% of the labour force lived within 30 miles of site
• Several site tours were given throughout construction to a number of groups including end users, staff, students from a local high school and college and local charities
• The local Autism Networks charity benefited through volunteer work from the site team. They helped open their training room/ cyber café by assisting with plastering and painting walls
• New tarmac has also been provided to the front of the Autism Networks building in order to create a small car park
To date, the project has been awarded:
