The Lion Salt Works restoration project is an exemplar model in building conservation, revitalising Cheshire’s salt mining heritage in a unique visitor attraction for tourists and the local community.

• The delicate restoration of the scheduled ancient monument called for expertise, precision and care

• The UK’s last remaining open-pan salt works frozen in time as a slice of Cheshire’s proud salt mining industrial heritage

• Zero waste to landfill

• Several successful community and national heritage open days carried out

• On-site practical experience enabled West Cheshire College student, Mike Thompson to obtain his heritage joinery apprenticeship

• Six apprenticeship placements and more than 150 hours of on-site training support delivered
