Two separate schemes were carried out under the same contract as part of Liverpool City Council’s Liverpool Schools Investment Programme, providing much-needed and improved facilities for both schools

St Margaret’s C of E Academy- Refurbishment
St Margaret’s received a new steel framed teaching block housing a food technology laboratory and drama hall/theatre. The existing building was also refurbished to create a new music department. This opened in time for the 2016 academic year.

Palmerston School
Palmerston provides education for pupils aged 11-19 with severe or profound learning difficulties. The former, unevenly spread school was reaching the end of its life and did not have any suitable external recreation facilities. The single storey building includes classrooms, external recreation areas, sports and dining hall, hydrotherapy and splash pool and sensory learning. Hoists, accessible toilets, touchpad and voice control to rooms and corridors suitable for wheelchairs featured throughout, alongside colour coding in and outside the building corresponding to various areas/ year groups.

Both projects were handed over on time and to budget and took place in a live school environment, with operations carried out in close proximity to students and staff. Segregation was carefully considered and logistics and delivery plans avoided school picking up and dropping off times. There was an ‘open door’ policy and close liaison with the St Margaret’s Headteacher and facilities manager, informing of and planning daily site activities.

“The Kier team always understood and demonstrated the value of working in partnership with the client organisation and the wider stakeholders.”
