Specialised housing showcased for framework partners

Work is nearing completion on the construction of a new Autism Centre for Wigan Council at Mayfield Road, Orrell, Wigan. Contractors from across our frameworks had the opportunity to join Willmott Dixon for a site visit on 15th February 2018.

This provided a great knowledge sharing opportunity and showcased the outcomes across this ambitious project which was made possible through extensive collaboration between the North West Construction Hub, Wigan Council, Willmott Dixon and multiple subcontractors.

The brand new Autism Centre will consist of 12 apartments for people living with autism, a warden/carer apartment, a sensory room, communal kitchen and smaller kitchen area for those with more severe autism, and communal gardens. Residents will be able to move in during March 2018.

On top of this, a new housing development comprising of 12 houses and 18 bungalows for affordable rent is being built. The new homes in the first instance will be available for families of people living with autism so they can be close to their relatives who will be receiving support at the Autism Centre. This part of the project is still under construction and due to be completed in November 2018.
