Countdown to Christmas: Day 6 – Sandside Lodge School
The design and build of a new two-storey special educational needs (SEN) facility to accommodate pupils aged from two to nineteen years with profound and multiple learning difficulties, wins multiple awards!
The scheme, procured through the NWCH Medium Value Framework, will also include a new 80-place school with specialist areas, including sensory rooms, a therapy suite, hydro-therapy swimming pool, physiotherapy rooms, rebound trampoline therapy alongside modern teaching spaces with the latest technology.
This is an exciting development which will create a centre of excellence for special needs learning in Cumbria. The new-build will provide much-needed modern, purpose-built facilities for pupils and staff at Sandside Lodge as well as a base for our Special Autism Teaching Support team.” Cllr Sue Sanderson, Cumbria County Council.
The Sandside Lodge SEN school has provided a lot of excitement within the school users with both teachers and students having optimism the new facility will provide an improved learning environment supporting the health, safety and wellbeing of all.
Throughout the duration of the works, the dedicated delivery team regularly organised site visits with the school ensuring students and teachers are regularly updated with progress as well as offering an opportunity for the specialist needs of the pupils to gently adapt to the approaching change of environment.
This was reflected at the 2019 Constructing Excellence National Awards, where Seddon won the Health, Safety and Well being Award. The site has also been associated with a number of internal awards achieving Safe Site Excellence Award 2019 and with Site Manager, Tom Smalley winning High Achiever Excellence Award 2019.
Congratulations to all involved on this fantastic achievement!
