Northern Powerhouse Minister Opens UoC Energy Centre
The facility, described as one of the flagship initiatives of the Northern Powerhouse, was opened by MP Jake Berry, minister for the Northern Powerhouse and Local Growth. The facility is located within the Cheshire Science Corridor at the University of Chester’s hi tech park at Pool Lane.
The NWCH’s Medium Value Framework was used to procure the Energy Centre, and was the first project for the University through the NWCH.
NWCH framework contractor Willmott Dixon finished the Energy Centre at Thornton Science Park four weeks early for client University of Chester and achieved a fantastic 88% of labour coming from within 10 miles of the site.
The energy centre is designed to promote growth and rapidly move ahead the development and exploitation of technologies for the energy market. It is already enabling industrialists and university academics to link up to innovate, develop and demonstrate new ‘intelligent’ energy skills.
