NWCH Framework partner delivers key field hospital across the North West and Wales
NWCH’s constructor partner, VINCI Construction UK, has been instrumental in delivering key field hospitals across the North West and North Wales for the NHS, to help meet potential demand in bed spaces in its fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.
Through its healthcare delivery arm, Integrated Health Projects, VINCI worked alongside NHS staff, the Army, Mott MacDonald and BDP to build the new NHS Nightingale Hospital North West in just 12 days.
Over 1,000 people worked 24-hours a day to deliver the facility located in Manchester’s Grade II listed Manchester Central Convention Centre. The new Nightingale Hospital was officially opened by HRH The Duchess of Cornwall, via video link on 17 April 20, who described it as bringing “light to a dark time”.
On the North Wales coast, VINCI also worked day and night in remodelling two sports & leisure centres to form temporary hospitals at Deeside and Bangor. The works involved demolition of an indoor wooden skate park, reconfiguring an ice-skating rink, converting squash courts and sports halls and renovating a creche to form key ward spaces.
Renamed Ysbyty Enfys Glannau Dyfrdwy (Rainbow Hospital Deeside) and Ysbyty Enfys Bangor (Rainbow Hospital Bangor), the former sports halls were delivered for Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board (BCUHB), which alongside a centre in Llandudno, now has 1,000 additional beds to help meet potential future demand.
In total, VINCI has delivered over 1,600 bed spaces over the last 4 weeks, in response to the Covid-19 pandemic and in partnership with 6 North West and Wales NHS Trusts and Health Boards.
