Package of Three Fire Stations for Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service Complete
Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service (CFRS) selected ISG to design and construct a package of three Fire Stations, at Penketh, Powey Lane and Lymm which included a community safety centre. ISG had previously worked with a number of different Fire Authorities across the Northern region, undertaking a range of new build and refurbishment projects.
The projects for CFRS were procured as a set-of-three via the North West Construction Hub Medium Value Framework, with a total value of circa £14m. Procuring via NWCH allowed work to begin quickly, and first works at Penketh fire station commenced in September 2015, with the final project at Lymm completed in March 2017.
The ISG design teams chose to use BIM technology software and tools as their preferred means of design and for production information on all three projects. Throughout the preconstruction process, the design teams exchanged their 3D models using ISG’s collaboration portal, Conject, for coordination and for clash detection purposes. The key benefit of using BIM here was being able to navigate the 3D design in order to visualise where any potential clashes could have been at an early stage, meaning that any anomalies would be prevented before the construction phase.
