Southern Cross SEN school – an update
In February, members of the public were invited to a pre-planning public consultation event for the proposed Southern Cross SEN School in Northenden.
The school will be located on the site of Roundwood Road, formerly Roundwood Secondary Special School. The school will enable Manchester City Council and its partners to afford young people the dedicated and specialist educational opportunities they need, in a modern high quality designed facility, with landscaped surroundings to add value to the local area.
The new school will accommodate 120 pupils aged 9 – 16 years old and be managed by The Endeavour Federation, an organisation with a proven track record of delivering high quality education for young people with social, emotional and mental health needs. The Federation currently manages four other SEN schools across Manchester at Castlefield Campus, Meade Hill, Southern Cross and Wythenshawe Campus.
The school is a part of the Manchester SEN programme and was procured through the NWCH High Value Framework by Manchester City Council. Works will be completed by ISG.
Following the consultation period, planning permission was granted and site activity began in mid-July. The school will open in September 2021.
