Stylish Student Accommodation in a Conservation Area
Student Accommodation for University of Cumbria was delivered on time despite Storm Desmond and an already challenging programme, in the heart of the Lake District National Park by Keepmoat.
The £3.7m, 11 bed and two eight bedroom town houses, offering 71 en-suite facilities were all manufactured off-site through SIPS construction which is fast, bespoke, extremely cost effective, environmentally friendly, labour saving reducing labour on site, minimal disruption and offering excellent thermal benefits. Extensive consultations with the Lake District National Park Authority and English Heritage took place, and local materials used where possible. In addition to 4 Apprentices being employed through the sub-contractors, numerous community engagement initiatives took place including talks at a local school, site tours for university students, home visits to the local residents and businesses, newsletters drops and open house once a month. The accommodation was ready for the new students to arrive in September 2016 following a 9 month build period.
The scheme was shortlisted for the Construction News 2017 Project of the Year Award (under £10m).
