Top project leadership in the education sector recognised

For his work delivering a new £8.4m college in Warrington, UK, Senior Project Manager Warren Hough is shortlisted for Construction Manager of the Year in the higher education sector at this year’s Chartered Institute of Building Awards.

Judges were impressed by Warren’s leadership on University Technical College (UTC) in Warrington. The £8.4m new build contract, procured through the North West Construction Hub (NWCH), saw ISG deliver a six-storey facility. The UTC model – a new concept in educational provision – provides a technically oriented curriculum for 14 to 19 year olds. Warrington’s first UTC specialises in the engineering and energy sectors, and is supported by key regional employers, including Sellafield Ltd, Atkins, Amec, Foster Wheeler, Tenet Consultants and Nuvia.

Completed in September 2016, the UTC comprises a series of workshops, a lecture theatre, laboratory and teaching space for up to 640 students and staff.

Warren will find out if he has been successful at an awards ceremony on 27 September 2017 held in central London.

“The UTC formed part of the second phase of Warrington’s ambitious Stadium Quarter regeneration scheme, and was strategically important for the council and regional employers. Completion for the new academic year was critical to the success of this new venture. Warren and his team delivered above and beyond on site to ensure that the scheme came in on time and within budget.”
