Want to ‘have a go’ at construction?

Following on from the successful collaborative volunteering day with Growing in the City last year, the NWCH Social Value SIG were open to working together again on other events. Having met with the Factory Youth Zone last year, Nin Khoshaba at BAM Construction suggested replicating Manchester City Council’s ‘Have a Go’ event from 2015 at Manchester Central with a strong construction theme focus.

With the event aimed at Primary and Secondary Schools as well as community groups, NWCH, its contractors and supply chain have worked together to ensure that an array of activities and professionals will be available on the day for attendees. They will have the opportunity to ‘have a go’ at trade demonstrations such as joinery, bricklaying, painting and decorating whilst getting a glimpse into the future with our Digital Construction experience.

Attendees will also be able to speak to training providers and professionals about careers and apprenticeships in the industry. Primary and Secondary School students will also be offered STEM engagement activities to show that these subjects can be fun and to consider careers in this field.

The purpose of the event is to promote careers in construction, change preconceptions of the industry and help those looking for training and employment opportunities.

The event will take place at The Factory Youth Zone, 14th February from 11:00am – 12:30pm.

Primary schools from 9.30-11.30

High schools from 12.30 – 2.30

Community drop in from 3 -4.30
