Young Women of South Manchester ‘Have a Go’ at Construction
Aimed at young women in years 8&9 who have yet to choose their options, the NWCH Social Value Special Interest Group put the variety of available roles and career paths in construction on display, while reiterating that construction’s not just for boys!
The day started with a ‘guess the role quiz’, where the pupils had to quiz 8 different ladies, to identify their roles in the industry. These were of a wide range from Quantity Surveyor to BIM Manager. The next part of the day involved the pupils ‘having a go’ at various activities in construction based on traditional trades such as plumbing, painting and decorating along with the high tech such as virtual reality.
Overall the team recieved positive feedback from both the teachers and the pupils alike. Many pupils expressed a new found interest in the construction industry, and the day had opened their eyes to careers they didn’t know existed.
